The first thing that should be known about Gabriel is that he is an Archangel, (in Supernatural) one of the first four angels created by God, and one of the most powerful creatures in existence; they’re described as fierce, absolute, and heaven’s most terrifying weapon, this is no different for Gabriel. Gabriel took his duties very seriously while he was in heaven, serving as God’s messenger and fully devoted to his Father and brothers.
This love is what drove Gabriel to abandon heaven and create his own ‘witness protection service.’ He was so sickened by how Lucifer and Michel were being forced to fight one another and so, instead of choosing sides, he fled. Despite being one of ‘heaven’s most terrifying weapons’ he didn’t want to suffer under this conflict; he loved his family too much.
While on Earth, Gabriel underwent massive changes to his personality. It can easily be assumed that he was once like Michel and Raphael: cold, impersonal, strict, and fearsome. However, after several thousand years on Earth, Gabriel loosened up and became more ‘human’ in his mannerisms and speech. Out of all the Archangels, Gabriel expresses the most emotion, using sarcasm, jokes, pop culture, and gesticulation in his interactions. This exposure combined with the fact he decided to take on the guise of a ‘trickster’ (A demi-god who plays with humans for entertainment) are what made him how he is in present day.
Over the years living under the guise of a trickster, Gabriel adopted some of the quirks that go along with that species. He has a strong affinity for sweets and loves playing tricks on people for his own entertainment. However, as when Sam and Dean first meet him, his tricks sometimes go beyond mere entertainment and actually become reminiscent of his Archangel nature, using his tricks to punish bad people through a ‘Just Desserts’ fashion.
While Dean accuses him of being a coward, this is really only applicable when Gabe is dealing with his family. As he states, he would rather run and hide than fight them, though, when faced with loosing someone important to him through Lucifer’s actions, Gabriel finds his courage and decides to face his brother. While he’s facing off with Lucifer he reveals to his brother that, over the years, humans and humanity has won his heart and, while he doesn’t always act like it, he cares very much for humans and their survival.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths/Abilities:
• Immortality- Gabriel is a rather old angel, being the fourth one in creation, and thus holds superiority over regular angels, like Cas.
• Angelic Possession- The exact intensity of his real form is unknown, however it's assumed to be very powerful as an archangel.
• Invulnerability- Gabriel is somewhat resistant to all forms of harm, but there are methods of injuring, or killing him, such as another Archangel, or a sword of an Archangel.
• Super Strength- Gabriel substantially increased the strength threshold of his host, he is naturally stronger than all angels, overpowering them in a casual manner.
• Shapeshifting - Gabriel could change his vessels appearance by will, using this ability to pretend to be someone else for a trick.
• Healing Factor- When Gabriel's vessel does get damaged, he can heal the wound(s) instantly.
• Teleportation- Gabriel is insanely fast and agile, capable of appearing and disappearing anywhere in time, space, and any place on the face of the Earth (he implied he could also leave Earth).
• Telekinesis- Gabriel can move people and or objects just by thinking. He was even able to throw Lucifer at a wall with it.
• Superhuman Intelligence- Gabriel possesses an immense amount of knowledge of the Universe. He even possessed knowledge on his brother's Cage, and how to open it.
• Time Manipulation- Gabriel, like all angels, can move forward or backwards through time, he can also send others back in time, as an archangel he could do this with ease.
• Reality Warping- Gabriel can accomplish just about anything with this power. He can warp reality, whether it be by making things appear out of thin air, or by reshaping objects into something else entirely, or by creating unreal dimensions and large time loops.
• Conjuration - Gabriel could create things simply by thought, such as bringing characters on his magazines to life.
• Resurrection- Gabriel, like all archangels, can easily revive dead people.
Weaknesses:
> An Archangel's Sword can kill an Archangel
> The other Weapons of Heaven can harm and possibly kill an Archangel.
> The Colt can damage, but not kill
> Other Archangels
> Some spells can harm archangels
> Holy Fire can restrain an archangel; Holy Fire can also be used to banish an archangel for a short period of time
